SmartBob2 SS for Submersed Solids
The SmartBob2 SS sensor option is a proven solution when the requirement is to measure the level of solid material below a liquid surface, such as in brine interface applications. It can be used in tanks where solid material settles at the bottom of a tank, such as for measuring the level of settled salt, sediment, sand or metals under water. The SmartBob SS is an excellent alternative to relying on sight tubes and can be used in any application where solid material needs to be measured under liquid. Examples include water treatment, wastewater facilities, food processing, petroleum refining, chemical processing, and salt and metal mining.
The SmartBob-SS sensor drops a weighted Bob through the liquid; when the Bob comes into contact with solid settled material at the bottom of the tank, it retracts and sends a measurement to a SmartBob control console or a PC loaded with eBob software. The SmartBob-SS sensor’s special design comes configured with a 3-inch standpipe for ease of installation, a stainless steel cable that stands up to corrosive materials, and a SureDrop cap that prevents the weight from being retracted into the pipe and protects the device from unwanted material entering through the standpipe.
Features:
• Standard air purge fitting that can be plumbed to add dry air and help keep the sensor cavity dry stainless steel,
• Teflon-jacketed cable or a durable nylon cable with stainless fittings that stands up to corrosive materials
• Sends data to C-100 control console or PC loaded with eBob software
• Standard 4-20 analog output can send data directly to existing control system from the C-100
Specifications:
• Power Requirements: 115/230 VAC 50/60 Hz
• Ambient Temp: -40°F to +185°F (-40°C to +85°C)
• Process Temp: Up to 500°F (260°C)
• Measurement Range: Up to 60’
• Measurement Rate: 2 feet per second
• Accuracy: ± 0.25% distance measurement accuracy
• Mounting: 3”- 8” NPT
• Enclosure: Molded polycarbonate
• Approvals & Certifications: Listed for Class II, Groups E, F, & G Hazardous Locations
• Enclosure Type: NEMA 4X, 5, 9 & 12
Applications:
• Measuring the level of solid material below a liquid surface
• Brine interface applications
• Measuring the level of settled salt, sediment, sand or metals under water
• Alternative to relying on sight tubes
• Water treatment, wastewater facilities, food processing, petroleum refining, chemical processing, salt and metal mining
SmartBob Glass Bob Sensor
The glass bob sensor is specifically designed for measuring the level of silica sand, commonly referred to as frac sand, in bins, tanks or silos. Measuring silica sand comes with unique difficulties. If a sensor should get stuck in the material in the bin, it can get caught in the mechanical systems and stop production, leading to wasted time and expensive repair costs. The glass bob sensor can be used in place of a traditional steel spike bob, when the user wants to eliminate the risk of a metal part being introduced into the production process. It will not damage equipment or harm the product if the bob becomes crushed during processing, being that glass is essentially sand.
The glass bob sensor helps save time, money, and increases safety when measuring materials in bins by eliminating the need to climb bins and take manual measurements. Acting as an automated tape measure, the sensor takes measurements at predetermined time intervals or on demand. The glass bob sensor is dropped toward the material surface and when it makes contact with the surface, it immediately retracts and, by counting pulses, calculates a highly accurate measurement from the top of the silo to the material surface.
The glass bob sensor is compatible with other products, software and accessories in the SmartBob product line. It can be used in a mixed network of SmartBobs which are measuring other materials. Measurements from the sensor can be displayed along with data from all other tanks in the operation when the C-100 console or eBob software is being used.
Features:
• Will be ground up upon getting stuck in the material
• Eliminates the risk of a metal bob being introduced into the production process
• Ensures continuous production
• Takes measurements at predetermined time intervals or on demand
• Eliminates the need to climb bins and take manual measurements
• Compatible with other SmartBob products
Specifications:
• Retracts once the bob comes into contact with the material surface
• Measures by counting pulses
• The C-100 console or eBob software simultaneously displays glass bob measurements with data from other tanks
Applications:
• Specifically designed for silica, or frac, sand
• Ideal for mining for natural gas
•Can be applied in industries where silica and other types of sand are used

SmartBob Teflon Spike Sensor
The Teflon-coated spike bob is an optional SmartBob probe specifically adapted for measuring powders and solids material that may adhere to the sensor probe. It is ideal for use in sticky materials such as silica or frack sand, powdered chemicals or minerals, additives and ingredients, or any material that tends to build up on the sensor probe. The Teflon coating on the probe has US FDA approval which also enables it to be used in bins, tanks, or silos containing ingredients used in animal and human food processing or pharmaceutical environments.
Measuring the level of sticky materials can create difficulties for some operations. If material should build up on the sensor, periodic maintenance would be needed to clean the sensor probe off. Also, built up material on the probe could begin to spoil over time and potentially cause contamination. Powders built up over time can become a sold mass that may enter the production process. The Teflon-coated probe can be used in place of a traditional steel spike bob, when the user wants the added assurance that buildup won’t occur.
Features:
• Dupont 532G-5011 US FDA approved Teflon coating
• Prevents buildup of sticky material on sensor probe
• Can be used in animal and human food or pharmceutical applications
Applications:
• Measuring powders and solids material that may adhere to the sensor probe
• Vessels containing ingredients used in animal and human food processing
• Pharmaceutical environments where US FDA coating may be required
• Sticky materials such as silica or frack sand, powdered chemicals or minerals, additives and ingredients
• Any material prone to build up on the sensor probe
